Exploring Bali – 6 reasons to visit the dream island

Hi travellovers, this blogpost is going to tell you everything you need to know about exploring Bali!

So if you want to make the most of your visit to the dream island Bali or if you can’t decide if this unique place is right for you – keep reading 🙂 !

Being a dream destination for many, Bali definitely manages to fulfil travellers’ high expectations and will provide you with unique experiences.

Here comes the list of reasons why a trip to Bali is always worth the effort:

1.) The experience of cultural richness is incredible.

Whether you are interested in art, religious rituals, beautiful temples, Balinese traditions or simply learning about different ways of life, this place is right for you. I’ve never learned so much about another culture as fast as I did while exploring Bali. You will be fascinated by Balinese dances, flower arrangements, and the serenity that comes from religious monuments.

I can definitely recommend the following activities:

  • A traditional Balinese dance ritual (e.g. at Bali Museum or any local place)
  • Visiting Pura Taman Ayun Temple to learn about the prototype of a Balinese Temple
  • Exploring the lotus lake including Taman Kemude Saraswati Temple in its center

2.) It’s hard to beat the beauty of Bali’s landscape and nature.

Another big advantage of exploring Bali is definitely the huge variety of breathtaking sceneries that are waiting to be admired. Whether you prefer to relax on the beach or see more of the inner countryside, Bali will never fail to amaze you with these locations:

  • Tanah Lot Temple is located directly at the beachline. Visits at sunset provide the most stunning view!
  • Tegalalang Rice Terraces Ubud let you experience the classic green scenery that makes for great walks or relaxing bike trips
  • Admiring the view of Mount Batur, the dream island’s active volcano
  • Tegenungan Waterfall is beautiful for a little walk, you can even take a refreshing bath 😊
  • There’s nothing funnier than visiting The Monkey Forest in Ubud and making new friends there

3.) Bali offers a huge variety of beaches for all kinds of activities.

Spending time on different beaches is definitely a big part of exploring Bali!

The choice of your ideal beach really depends on what you want to do there on the actual day. Different beaches provide different advantages, so make sure to pick the best beach for yourself.

If you want to relax, enjoy great views and spend a quiet day, Nusa Dua is perfect for you!

If you are looking for a fun day at the beach followed by a breathtaking sunset dinner, Jimbaran Beach might be a good choice.

In case you are more interested in partying, massages and surfing activities, touristic Kuta Beach or nearby Legian Beach will serve you well. Renting a surfboard for some hours and enjoying a cold drink afterwards is a great activity there!

For the most extraordinary experience it’s worth exploring Uluwatu Beach and enjoy the unique view from Uluwatu Temple in the evening at sunset time. I’ve never seen anything that could compare to that!

4.) It’s not as expensive as you think!

Especially when you come from Europe it is a really long trip to Bali and many fear the expenses of travelling halfway around the globe.

In fact, it’s not that expensive even if you want to experience some luxury. Opting for a 4-star-hotel can be a great way of being comfortable without paying too much. We stayed at The Akmani Legian (starts at 55 USD/2 persons/night) and I would return there anytime! All in all, exploring Bali is less expensive than you think!

It might be a good idea to choose 3-4 different places to stay at so you’ll be able to experience different areas of Bali. You could go to one place in the south of the island (e.g. Legian), another one on the east side (e.g. Nusa Dua), maybe rent a private villa in Ubud, Bali’s cultural center and a final place in the north.

Getting around

Even if the island does not seem that big, it can take a long time to get from A to B. For that reason I would always recommend staying at different places on the island to avoid being stuck on tiny roads when exploring Bali.

Another advantage of exploring Bali is that there is actually an inexpensive yet comfortable way of getting around. We have rented a private driver for less than 40 Dollars a day who knew how to avoid the worst tourist traps and was reliable at all times. Leave me a message in the comments and I am happy to give you his contact information!

It’s also easy to find reasonably priced food while exploring Bali. There are countless food corners and little cafes that serve great local dishes for little money. Freshly pressed juices are also an amazing and inexpensive option! Even posher restaurants are affordable compared to other dream islands.

5.) The Balinese people are nothing but friendly and welcoming.

Not only your private driver will make sure that exploring dream island Bali is going to be a really unique experience. Every person we have met on this island was super polite, very welcoming and provided us with a truly unique experience. Whether it was people in shops or hotels or as well locals we have met during our stay, everybody spread positive vibes and happiness. The relation with our driver had turned into an international friendship after some days and we have regular contact with him until this day.

6.) You will get to experience the ultimate Balinese Spa treatments!

Like most other activities in Bali, Spa treatments are affordable on almost every budget. While paying at least 60 Euros/Dollars for a whole body massage in Europe, the Balinese offer at least the same level of relaxation for about 14 (!) Dollars per hour. In combination with some relaxing Balinese music and artisanal aroma oils it’s a truly relaxing experience and should not be missed.

After telling you about exploring Bali’s endless possibilities, I hope you have been able to get a better impression of why Bali is truly a dream island and absolutely worth a visit:

  • Cultural richness
  • The beauty of landscape & nature
  • Amazing beaches
  • Reasonable prices
  • The friendliest people
  • Unique spa relaxation

Have you ever been to Bali? I’d be happy to hear more about your experiences in the comments 😊. Feel free to ask any questions, especially if you are interested in visiting the dream island as well.
